From Rosetta Code

The only reference given here is to a standard that specifies the exponent size in bits is always 2, but the task for decoding specifies an exponent size of 3. --Wherrera (talk) 18:41, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

Correct, though there is the Facebook research quote. Anyway on posithub.org, there is an accompanying note with the standard : "NOTE: Contrary to the original paper by Gustafson and Yonemoto, and to early versions of the Standard, the exponent size (eS) is always 2 and does not vary with the precision. This greatly simplifies conversions between precisions and the creation of correctly-rounded math library functions, and in hundreds of experiments with real applications has shown to be a better choice." This explains the possible confusion. I suppose I could add a prior reference, or mention this note explicitly in the description of the task. --Grondilu (talk) 23:31, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
